Christmas Memories 1952

This is a picture of our family in 1952. This is just 8 of us kids. Three had not even been born yet. Paula is the cute little 4 year old blonde girl sitting on a tricycle holding her baby doll. Isn't she adorable? I am not in this picture because I was number 11 and the baby of the family. This is when Christmas was still so magical for children. Every year us girls always got a new doll. Each toy we got was a treasure. We all believed in Santa. There were no electronics or complicated technology toys... I wish there was a way for our children to experience this type of a Christmas. Yummy Recipe for Pumpkin Spice Latte!

CrockPot Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe

Skip the coffee house today and make pumpkin spice lattes at home. This recipe really does taste like the real thing----even though it doesn't leave a fluorescent orange stain when you dribble it down your sweater.

The Ingredients.
adapted from Taste of Home's Halloween 2008 edition

--2 cups milk (I used 1%)
--2 T canned pumpkin
--2 T white sugar
--2 T vanilla (not a typo. it asks for tablespoons)
--1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
OR: 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp cloves, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, and a teeny tiny pinch of ground ginger
--1/2 cup brewed espresso or 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee

--garnish with whipped cream (optional)

The Directions.

This will make enough for 2 people to have a big mug with a bit leftover. If you are having friends over, adjust the recipe accordingly. I used a 4-quart crockpot, but as small as a 1.5 quart will work with these amounts.

Add the coffee/espresso and milk to the crockpot. Whisk in the pumpkin, spices, sugar, and vanilla.

Cover and cook on high for 2 hours if everything is cold. Whisk again.

Ladle into mugs, and garnish with whipped cream and additional cinnamon. I added a cinnamon stick to be fancy.

I think I will turn on my Christmas music and get in the mood for the holidays coming. You know for us crafters our holidays have to come so much earlier so our creations can get to you all in time to enjoy them. I am going to try to list several times a week from now through December so keep checking back. Paula will be home November 1st and she will be anxious to start making her awesome Santas again. Hope you all have a great day today! Thank you for visiting us! Tammie

Be sure to check out her picture trail for a complete list of all her patterns that are new and some favorite sellers in the past! We are excited about the Fall season kicking in! I have been so busy making pumpkins. I think I can make them with my eyes shut now. Sorry about not posting for a while. We will try harder to keep up.

Thanks so much to our dear friend from TDIPT Jan who made our new Halloween Banner. She did an awesome job! She has great templates and banners and what we love too is that she is super fast in getting them back to you when you need one in a hurry. Be sure to check out her site.

Here is a simple snack that reminds me of our Dad who always had a bowl of candy corn and peanuts sitting by his chair in the Fall. The sweet and salty taste is so yummy.

Halloween Candy Dish

Tastes like a PayDay candy bar
1 jar of dry roasted peanuts
1 bag of plain M&Ms
1 bag of candy corn
Mix together in a clear candy dish and enjoy!

Newest Fall Primitive Pumpkins and Black Cat Listed on Ebay!

Here is my newest creation to start off the Fall season coming up! This set is listed on Ebay. I used one of Paula's cat patterns and revised it but the pumpkins are my own design. I tried to make the stems look more real. I used to make green stems and then after looking at pictures I realized that the stems really are not green. The pumpkins look brighter than they are in the pictures. Also if anyone is interested in just the pumpkins alone, I would consider taking a couple of orders. Here is the link if you would like to check him out: Black Cat on Ebay

Be sure to scroll down for Paula's new Santa listed on Ebay this week!

My Primitive Folk Art World

Primitive friends we are a unique special bunch aren't we? I feel sorry for the people who just don't get it. You know what I mean? This week once again I encountered a person who no matter how much I tried to explain what I do, I just seemed to dig my hole deeper into this crazy awesome world of primitive folk art. I finally had to give up and walk away knowing they think I am completely nuts.

Living in the city in Texas does not help at all. My heart is in the country farm town that I was raised in. In my world, I imagine myself in a Little House on the Prairie world. Let me say that I feel very much like an alien in the middle of this fast paced city life. To me, people here are running so hard and fast that they do not know how to stop and enjoy the very simple things in life that money can't buy.

I encountered "one of those" this week. This lady came over and saw that I was sitting at the table painting and sewing some of my vegetables. I saw the look on her face like she was not impressed at all. She asked, "well what do you do with them"? I tried to explain that if you lived in an old farmhouse they would look so awesome in an old wooden bowl on an old kitchen table. She picked up the piece of corn I was working on and I could tell she just could not picture it in her fancy pants house... It was as if she thought she picked up something that had germs on it. She then felt like she had to let me know that she knew no one who would want anything like this. She told me she could imagine people in the hills of Tennessee maybe wanting them... Hmmmm, was she calling me a hillbilly? I was getting more and more upset in my mind. She then said " People really buy these on eBay?" I tried to explain again. Defending a world that I love. It has happened so many times before. Trying to explain why my dolls eyes look like they do, why I have a pan of grose tea mixture on the stove, why my fingers are brown from tea stains and why all my shirts have paint spots on them...

I give up... I have a choice. I can choose to let her make me feel inferior with her snooty insults or I can choose to realize that I am the rich one. I am the one who is able to take the most simple things in life and turn them into memories that make people stop and smile. I am the rich one for having so many friends who are like me in this world of prim. I am the rich one for I can see the heart that goes into each beautiful creation that my friends come up with. I love being happy for my friends when their dolls get so many bids on eBay. I love how even though many of my friends I have never met, yet I feel so close to and know that they would be there for me when I needed them.

I am the rich one. When my days are over, I think it is awesome that some of the things I have created are out there making people smile and giving people memories, reminding people of the days when simple things were the richest things in life.

I borrowed this picture from another blog. Hope it is okay. It is an example of us. I thought it was cute and it made me smile. Tammie
